The much awaited comeback of the Brown family on TLC is already here as "Sister Wives" season 8 already premiered on Sunday, Nov. 27. As expected, the four-hour special had a lot of drama in it where some of the issues that the family faced while the show was on hiatus were addressed by those involved.
The premiere was not all about intense drama though as the episode started with several good news. Season 8 picked up from Maddie's engagement which actually happened last year. The Sister Wives were thrilled about the union as they recognized it as the first monogamous wedding that has happened in the Brown family. Apart from that, confrontations came blow by blow among several members of the family.
The Browns' Take on Mykelti's Engangement
This is not fresh news as Mykelti's engagement with Tony has been a big concern for the Brown family for quite a while now. Only two months after Maddie's wedding, her 20-year-old sister agreed to a lifetime commitment with her boyfriend for only nine months then. Originally planning for an August wedding, the Brown family was intrigued by the couple rushing into marriage.
Christine, being Mykelti's mother, disagreed the most about their engagement and approached Kody to help her discourage their daughter, and so he invited Tony over dinner. Instead of scaring Tony away though, his talk with his daughter's fiancé ended with him giving his approval. Yet before he gave his blessings, Kody had a lot to request from Tony which even includes the couple allowing plural marriage in the family that they will soon build.
Another interesting request that Tony refused to agree with is for them to wait to get married before they get involved in sexual activities. Kody definitely surprised everyone with this request as he wanted his daughter to have a good honeymoon experience which some people might think is sarcastic since he is involved in a couple of sexual relationships - since he has four wives -- that all of their children are aware of.
Christine might have been disappointed with how the conversation turned out, but in the Las Vegas bridal shower of Mykelti, the third wife seemed to have loosened up a bit and looked happy for her daughter.
Meri And Kody's Face Off
The couple has obviously grown apart after the catfishing scandal that Meri got involved in. The couple then had the chance to sit down and talk about their issues which included Mariah who's still upset with her mother.
Trying to dig what started their conflict, Kody admitted that he's confused with how their relationship started falling apart and suggested that they go see their family therapist. Meri then seemed to agree but noted how they have been having troubles for years now. After the catfishing scandal that she got involved in, Meri said she feels like she is being denied of the chance to fix things and like she does not deserve forgiveness.
Meri then revealed that she has been pushing Kody away which worsened when she got caught in the catfishing issue. The next episodes then are expected to feature how the couple deals with their relationship issues and how they will try to mend their broken relationship as well as Meri winning Mariah's trust back.
"Sister Wives" Renewal For Season 9 Not Likely?
There were a lot of issues that came out while the show was on hiatus. Kendra Pollard, who had been a close friend of Robyn, became a source of several rumors that hounded the whole Brown family for the past months. Rumors have it that her latest revelation was about Kody's debt which she said almost had the whole family bankrupt. His debt was also noted to be the reason why Meri had to start her own venture to help with the family's finances.
Theories also have it that Kody is taking in a new wife to keep people entertained and to give TLC a new reason to renew the series since there are talks swirling that the network will ax "Sister Wives" after season 8.
None of these have yet been confirmed, but the upcoming episodes of "Sister Wives" season 8 are expected to reveal the truth about these rumors.
