Apple still makes what most of the world considers the best mobile operating system available.
Not much has changed in terms of the UI of iOS since the original iPhone debuted in 2007. We've seen Android redecorate Android's UI a few times already. Apple is taking the "if it's not broke don't fix it" approach. iOS 7 is believed to feature an updated UI, a much needed one. While it's not as flashy as Android, iOS still looks and feels more polished in many ways than its competitors, but it can get a little boring looking at the same screen for many years.
That doesn't mean that you can't enhance Apple's iOS. Jailbreak apps can make your iOS device look, work, and feel like you're still using iOS but you've customized it with some very cool features. It can make your iOS device feel, look, and act like you somehow took part in creating the smartphone you've always wanted. Following are five of the top jailbreak apps currently found in Cydia for iOS 6 devices. Videos are also below the article because it's fun to see them in action.
Activator is an app every jailbreak owner needs to have installed in order to use some of the most popular jailbroken apps available. It will bring new features to your iOS device via performing a certain gesture. It's completely customizable. You can set up opening one of your favorite apps by performing a gesture. For instance, if you want to open the iOS' app/task switching feature, instead of pressing the usual home button twice, you can access it by simply swiping up from the bottom of your screen for it to open. There are endless possibilities to how you can customize iOS. Available in Cydia for free.
SB Settings will make getting to your most commonly used settings quick and easy. You can customize it by adding quick toggles for almost all commonly used settings in iOS. You can access commonly used features with a toggle to enable or disable. Brightness setting, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G, information about your available storage and more can be achieved with this app. There are also tons of free plug-ins and themes in the Cydia app that makes it even more useful. Available in Cydia for free.
Auxo is a really cool feature that looks like something Apple could and should use to revamp iOS' app switcher. It's a cross between a grown-up Apple app switcher and webOS multitasking card view. You won't see the app icons that you've seen for many years; instead you are presented with a live app preview in the form of a card in the area it normally appears. You can switch apps, close apps, close all apps and even flick the card with a swipe down to close it. It's something you would expect Apple to create. Available in Cydia for $0.99.
Winterboard is a classic jailbreak app that has been around since we started jailbreaking things. Winterboard will allow you to give your iOS device a completely different look. There are many free and paid themes that can make your iOS device look totally different. There are themes for just about everything and it will make your iOS device look unique. Available in Cydia for free.
Assistant Enhancer gives Siri abilities that she's not supposed to be able to have, but thanks to this app and endless plug-ins, Siri can seem like a rocket scientist after this is installed. Some of the features include searching for an app, and Siri providing a description of the app, the ability to tap the app to open the App Store link for the the ability to download. You can have Siri search eBay and Amazon. All of this is done in Siri's UI, which is also nice. There are plug-ins that really push Siri to the limit, and given her abilities, Apple hasn't. It's a great app and shows how useful Siri really can be.
