What No Man's Sky Foundation Update Means For The Space Game's Future

No Man's Sky's Sean Murray had been silent for months, which many took to mean that the game is quickly nearing its death. However, it turns out that the devs were just gearing up for a huge update. Will this make No Man's Sky the game we have all been expecting all along? We're about to find out.

What's The Deal With No Man's Sky's Latest Update?

No Man's Sky Update 1.1, called the Foundation Update, is basically the first step in presumably making amends to thousands of disappointed players. Aside from literally adding foundations for base building, the update log dubs it a "foundation for things to come."

In my opinion, Hello Games should be proud of this one. It brought many changes and improvements to No Man's Sky that it's actually worth another shot. I know many who have booted up their copy after months of regrets and disappointment. I haven't actually gotten their full opinion on it yet, but it seems that they are warming up a little.

To summarize, the No Man's Sky Foundation Update adds new Game Modes, Base Building, Farming, Making Camp, Freighters and more. It's quite impressive when you read the patch notes and even more if they only did these after the huge backlash they received.

These are features that should have been in the launch version all along. I mean, space exploration should not be all about flying to procedurally generated planets that all offer the same experience. Okay, game modes are a nice touch and perhaps suitable for an update, but we should have gotten base building, making camp and others on No Man's Sky's on the first day.

What Does The Update Mean For No Man's Sky's Future?

The attention it got due to false advertisement is phenomenal. I admit, it blew out of proportion because it is still a pretty decent game, just not the one we were hoping for. It pleased some, but pissed off most. It even escalated to court.

However, the Foundation Update paints a nice image for its future. Hello Games did promise more free updates to come and that is exactly what we are looking forward to. This is just the beginning. If we can put our trust in Sean Murray again, then we might be looking at a bright future for No Man's Sky.

Does the game deserve an award now or something? Except perhaps for "The Cake Glados Was Talking About" on Steam Awards, it has a lot of work to do to at least get the trust of gamers back. But still, hats off to the devs for taking our criticisms seriously.

If you still have a copy just lying around in your desktop, install the update and boot it up. Tell me what you think. I still have to explore all the additions, but I admit I am getting pretty excited. To those who have already tried it, do you think this will redeem No Man's Sky? Or is it already too late for Hello Games to make amends? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.
