Dish's Sling TV Launches Cloud Test Of DVR To Take On AT&T Direct TV

Dish’s Sling TV launches cloud test of DVR. This update of the programming outlet is set to be gearing up to take on the PlayStation Vue and AT&T’s upcoming DirecTV Now services. The new feature, which will launch in an invite-only beta for Roku users next month, will allow all the users to record up to 100 hours of live TV stream with the ability to record multiple shows simultaneously.

Dish's Sling TV Launches Cloud Test Of DVR

According to TechCrunch, the cloud DVR will directly rival AT&T Direct TV and Sony’s PlayStation Vue, as Sling CEO Roger Lynch stated in the press release that the recordings on cloud DVR will not expire after 28 days — like they do on the Vue.

“Unlike other [over-the-top content] services, we’re delivering a true cloud DVR with no 28-day restriction on your recordings, marking another win for Sling TV and our customers,” Lynch said in the official press release. “Two years ago we became the first live OTT provider, and we continue to innovate and bring the best experience to our customers.”

As reported by The Wrap, Sling also added that the DVR will offer conflict-free recording, with the ability to pause, rewind and fast-forward through the recorded video. The content will be directly integrated into “My TV” screen of Sling TV, and the new service promises to automatically manage the space by deleting the oldest watched recordings when max capacity is reached.

Availability of the Dish's Sling TV

The DVR will launch a beta version in December and will initially only be available to those who watch Sling TV via Roku devices. Participation in the cloud DVR beta is invite-only and requires a Roku device. Sign up for current Sling TV customers is here.
