Pokemon Sun And Moon Guide: How To Catch Dewpider And Araquanid

Dewpider, one of the rarest creature in Pokemon Sun and Moon, is a Water-type Pokemon that is not really a good option for competitive battling. However, its evolution Araquanid is quite strong. Its base Sp. Def stats are at a whopping 132, but it is really really slow. Nonetheless, you need them to complete your Pokedex. Luckily for us, no need to go to the alternate dimension for this one.

How To Find Dewpider

You can find one at the early parts of Pokemon Sun and Moon. It is available in Akala Island, the first you will visit. Just go about your day until you encounter the Trial Captain Lana. You will be tasked to complete the trial (a walkthrough can be found here) in Brooklet Hill. Dewpider will become available after finishing it.

Once you have completed Lana's Trial in Pokemon Sun and Moon, go back to where you were sent to for the trial. To encounter a Dewpider, just ride Lapras and roam around the open waters fishing for it. Remember to do this during the day only, as it will not appear at night.

You can also find one in a patch of tall grass near the entrance, so you can also try your luck there. Dewpider is an extremely rare Pokemon, which means that it has extremely low encounter rate. Don't expect it to appear early. It might take even hours to find one.

Dewpider Stats, Abilities

Dewpider has the ability Water Bubble that lowers the effect of Fire moves dealt by the opponent by 50 percent. It also simultaneously increases the power of Water moves by 100 percent before adding STAB. The ability also prevents Burn.

A Dewpider also has the hidden ability Water Absorb. It heals up to 25 percent of the total HP when attacked with a Water move. To get one with an HA, use ally chaining. For more tips on the benefits of the SOS feature of Pokemon Sun and Moon, click here.

Its base stats are at 269. Its strength lies in Sp. Def, which is at 72 at the minimum. Second only is Defense at 52. Its Attack and Sp. Attack are equal at 40, then HP comes close at 38. Its Speed is the lowest at only 27. It evolves into Araquanid at level 22, but you can also catch one later in Pokemon Sun and Moon. If you can already visit Malie Garden in Ula'ula City, you can find Dewpider's evolution there.

What's interesting about Dewpider is the difference in the Pokedex description in Sun and Moon. In the former, it is somewhat cruel. It drowns smaller Pokemon by sucking them into the water bubble on its head.

In the other version, it is described as caring. "If it finds vulnerable, weak Pokémon, it protectively brings them into its water bubble," its Pokedex entry reads in Pokemon Moon.
