Sony Xperia C670X For Summer 2013, Runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean

The Sony Xperia Z smartphone has barely been released, but we're already hearing rumblings about its successor, the Xperia C670X.

That's kind of a mouthful, but if the Xperia C670X's rumored specs match up with reality, then Sony's stuffing its new smartphone with some serious power and the latest Android Jelly Bean software.

The revelation comes courtesy of an anonymous source who tipped off the Xperia Blog with a rendering of the phone alongside a list of specs. Sony has made no comment either way, and is unlikely to do so, but that won't stop us from diving headfirst into the report.

In something of a surprise, the Xperia C670X is actually going to sport a smaller screen than the current Xperia Z. If you're worried about what that means in terms of quality, you shouldn't be; its 4.8-inch display will pack a 1080 x 1920 HD resolution. Powering that pretty screen will be Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 600, 1.8GHz quad-core processor, an Adreno 320 graphics chip, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage and a 13-megapixel camera.

What's more, the wait for the phone isn't even going to be that long. Sony is planning on launching the set in mid-2013 with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean out of the box.

As for the phone's aesthetic design, there's not much to describe at this point other than to say it looks like an Xperia phone. The folks over at Xperia Blog can't say whether the C670X is composed mostly of aluminum or glass like the Xperia Z.

In fact, right now it's hard to tell whether this image is even really showing off the C670X. It's apparently the exact same picture Sony is showing off in the Xperia Z set-up guide, so it could simply be a standard placeholder. We'll just have to wait and find out more whenever Sony decides to share.

Sony is hoping to pivot off the positive reception of the Xperia Z in order to become a significant player in the smartphone market. The company is staying away from manufacturing cheaper devices in an attempt to woo high-end smartphone users, and the C670X seems like a continuation of that strategy.
