Pokemon Sun and Moon introduced Ultra Beasts, which are Pokemon from another dimension called Ultra Space. Although players may confuse them with Legendaries or even God-like Pokemon, they are a separate group of entities. They roam around Alola, too, like normal monsters. So how do we start the quest into finding these so-called Ultra Beasts?
Pokemon Sun And Moon Post-Game Content
Ultra Beasts only become available once you've finished the main storyline in both Pokemon Sun and Moon. As usual, credits will roll and after which, you will find yourself in your room. Head outside and you will find a strange old man who will hand you an Enigmatic Card sent by "a certain... interested party."
Head to the Akala Motel on Route 8 where you will meet the International Police in the guest room. You will discover that the old man you encountered earlier is actually Looker, which has also appeared in Pokemon X and Y. Joining him is the boss Anabel who will explain Ultra Beasts and what you need to do.
You'll learn more about the International Police in Pokemon Sun and Moon but this is just the important part: These Ultra Beasts are terrorizing Alola. However, they are also terrified themselves so it's up to you to capture them to protect both them and the citizens of the region.
You will eventually be taken into the Secret Labs in Aether Paradise. Head to Lab A and talk to the Lab Assistant to get DNA Splicers, Prison Bottle and Soul Dew. Down in Lab B is Ms. Wicke who will the give you 10 Beast Balls that are specifically designed for Ultra Beasts. Meaning, they have no effect on normal Pokemon in Pokemon Sun and Moon. The hunt starts when you go back to Route 8.
Pokemon Sun And Moon Ultra Beasts Tips
The full list of Pokemon Sun and Moon Ultra Beasts locations can be found here. The first you'll have to catch is Nihilego, then Buzzwole (Pokemon Sun) or Pheromosa (Pokemon Moon). You will have to catch multiple of them; two Buzzwoles or four Pheromosas.
Then you're off to find two Xurkitrees; after which is Kartana (Pokemon Sun) or Celesteela (Pokemon Moon). You'll have to find four of the former or two of the latter. Lastly, you will find Guzzlord. You only have to catch one of it, but be warned: it's very powerful.
Don't worry about running out of Beast Balls. You'll get 10 more every time the mission for a certain Ultra Beast starts. Also, normal Balls work on them, too. You will find the Ultra Beasts by how you normally hunt for Pokemon - running around; so it is a good idea to use Repel so the other monsters don't bother you while you're on a mission.
One thing to note also is that each of these Ultra Beasts has Beast Boost, which increases their best stat every time they KO a Pokemon. It is advised that the first move you do is change their ability by using Entrainment, Simple Beam or any other ability that yields same results.
