A public beta of the OnePlus 3 Android 7.0 Nougat update is now available for download. Interested users can download the firmware and try out the new software.
OnePlus released a Nougat beta a few weeks ago for registered beta members to try out. After weeks of testing and feedback, the company has released the software to the public. It is still in beta though and a final version should be available later this month.
OnePlus 3 Android 7.0 OxygenOS Open Beta 8
Those who want to try out the official Android 7.0 Nougat for the OnePlus 3, can do so now. The OnePlus OxygenOS Open Beta 8 is based on Android 7.0 and is ready to be downloaded. Those who are on a previous beta will not receive an OTA update for this. Instead, they would have to manually flash the update using the phone's recovery. As per Android Police, it is recommended to make a backup before updating.
In a blog post, OnePlus reported that it is thankful for all the feedback and bug reports from the beta program participants. The update brings some new features to the smartphone. The notifications system and interface is new, there is a new design for Settings, a Multi-Window feature for better multi-tasking, Quick Reply to notifications, improved battery life and support for custom DPI.
OnePlus has also baked in some of their features including new options for Status Bar Icons, Quick Launch for third-party apps and improved shelf customization. The stable build should be available by the end of this month, alongside the stable build for the newly released OnePlus 3T.
Is It Safe to Install?
This update is in its beta, which means that there will be bugs and users may experience crashes and performance issues. OnePlus also noted that Android Pay may not work like it is supposed to. Apart from those issues, downgrading back to Marshmallow will erase all data. The only way to go back is to contact OnePlus customer support and download a special build of Marshmallow.
Those who are okay with the above issues and do not mind living with the update as a daily driver, can go ahead and install it. Those who do not want to face bugs and other issues, can wait for a few more weeks for a stable OnePlus 3 Android 7.0 update to be available.
