These days, the trendy thing for phone manufacturers seems to be releasing ridiculously large handsets.
Standing in stark contrast to the 5-inch plus screens that are seem to be cropping up everywhere is the new Phone Strap 2.
Developed by Japanese phone maker Willcom, the Phone Strap 2 hopes to take us back to the good old days, when the most important thing about your phone wasn't its features, battery life or even call service. It was whether or not it was small. The more easily you could lose it in your purse or place it in your pocket, the better. Phone companies couldn't help but hype the smallness of their sets.
We've obviously moved in a completely opposite direction now, but Willcom is bragging that the Phone Strap 2 is the world's smallest phone with an email client. The tiny device comes in at a measly 70 x 32 x 10.7 mm, which is actually a bit larger than its predecessor, but, hey, it has email now. It also weighs 32 grams and sports a 1-inch screen.
The Phone Strap 2 comes packed with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and a Snapdragon quad-core — just kidding; it doesn't have any of those things. The phone's good for calling, texting and emails, and it's not even really that great for any of those options: You'll get two hours of speaking time and about 12 on standby.
The phone will only be available in Japan, but it's hard to imagine the device having much appeal even there. However, I can imagine at least two individuals that will find the Phone Strap 2 to be the greatest thing ever (see photos).
