Moto Z owners will have two more Moto Mods to play with. Motorola just announced the new Mophie Juice Pack and Incipio Car Dock Mods.
The Mophie Juice Pack Mod is a 3,000mAh battery which is the second battery add-on in the Mod line up. With the Mophie, the Moto Z can last 60 percent more as compared to the phone's normal battery life. It has a USB Type-C port so it can charge independently from the Moto Z.
The Incipio Car Dock turns the Moto Z into an entertainment system for cars. Snap the Moto Z on to the car dock Mod to connect it to the vehicle's audio system using a 3.5mm output. Clip the dock into the air conditioning vent t hold the phone in place. The Mod can hold the Moto Z vertically or horizontally. Android Auto will automatically be launched once the Moto Z is docked using the Incipio Mod. The Moto Z will then display an interface especially designed for the safe use of drivers.
The Mophie Mod is available for $79.90 and is already available for pre-orders while the Incipio Car Dock Mod costs $64.99.
There is no official date of release yet for both Mophie Juice Pack and Incipio Car Dock Mods.
There was a very recent rumor that the Moto Mod line up would have a Tango -enabled Mod pretty soon. Motorola's CEO Aymar de Lencquesaing actually indicated during a Nov. 30 event that the Moto Z will "likely have a Tango module".
The current mods in the Moto Z stable are the Incipio offGrid Power Pack, Hassleblad True Zoom, and the Moto Insta-Share Projector.
Motorola has indicated that it plans on being more active next year in developing more Mods since releasing the first three Moto Mods plus the shell protector at the same time as Moto Z's release. In early November, Motorola started an IndieGoGo contest for developers to come up with concepts for new Mods. The ten winning contestants will have the opportunity to work with Motorola in developing their concepts. Around 380 Mod ideas have been submitted so far including game controller Mods, a color-changing "mood" case, and a baby monitor Mod.
