"Kekkai Sensen" is having a season 2! In an issue of Shueisha's Jump SQ Crown magazine, it was announced that Yasuhiro Nightow's original manga "Kekkai Sensen," also known as "Blood Blockade Battlefront," will be adapted for a second season titled "Kekkai Sensen & Beyond."
There are big changes in the production staff for "Kekkai Sensen" season 2. Season 1 director Rei Matsumoto will be replaced by Shigehito Takayanagi while scriptwriter Kazunao Furuya will be replaced by Yasuko Kamo. Both Takayanagi and Kamo previously worked on "Dagashi Kashi" anime series. On the other hand, Taisei Iwasaki from "Kekkai Sensen" season 1 will be coming back for the soundtracks and the previous cast members are reprising their roles for season 2.
Kekkai Sensen is set in Hellsalem's Lot, formerly called as New York City, where humans are trapped alongside other beings like talking fishmen, vampires and supersonic monkeys. The city became a melting pot of magic and mundane life after a portal from the "Beyond" opened up three years ago, and an organization called "Libra" prevents the horrors inside the city from leaking to the outside world.
Leonardo Watch is a photographer who came to Hellsalem's Lot to find his sister. He received a powerful ability called "All Seeing Eyes of God" which damaged his sister's eyesight in exchange. His lack of offensive skills puts him in danger in the face of those who want his power. The story follows Leo's adventures in the strange city as he joins "Libra."
There is no update yet about the plotlines for "Kekkai Sensen & Beyond" yet but the season 1 deviated from the manga and had an original ending so it will be hard to follow it up with the first manga. A sequel of the manga titled "Kekkai Sensen: Back 2 Back" started publishing in July 2015. "Kekkai Sensen" season 2 will begin airing in 2017.
