Jamie Fraser, the dashing warrior of “Outlander,” couldn’t keep the secrets of the historical fiction’s third installment as the character’s actor Sam Heughan is too generous in giving away the supposedly big surprises of the forthcoming season.
“Certainly the beginning of season three is a slight deviation from the book. We're going to be showing a bit of Culloden, and what happened to Jamie. You're going to see it, and I think it's important since we talked about this battle, and that the Highlanders are doomed, and that they might be wiped out. It's a reward for the fans. There's one moment in particular that I didn't even know we were going to shoot, and I know the crew didn't, and everyone was like, "What the hell is this?!" There are some big surprises, but there are also some great moments from the book that we try to stick to as much as possible,” Heughan revealed in an interview.
Prior to the filming of “Outlander” season 3, showrunner Ronald D. Moore is open in saying that major changes are expected when the soap finally airs in tv screens. Various countries were selected as prime locations of the grand production and some scenes were slightly altered to keep the thrill alive.
As with Jamie’s character, his strong followers will be surprised (well, not now) with the diversity of his role from Claire’s love interest to being the battle’s crusader.
“In book three, Jamie is many characters. He's at least three, maybe four different things to people. He has different names, and basically he doesn't want to be Jamie Fraser. He wants to die at the end of season two, and he goes into battle thinking he will. To live is not part of the plan, and certainly, without Claire, it's even more so not what he was expecting. He has to learn to fight again and find purpose in his life. Aging became not about giving him a walking stick and gray hair. It became more about the experiences that he's lived, and how that changes him. I think he is, at times, unrecognizable. Sometimes we see the Jamie we know, but it will be a journey for him to get back to being James Fraser,” Sam described his role in the forthcoming season.
It looks like a different Jamie is set to put up his biggest fight in love and in war. Pretty exciting, huh.
Even Matthew B. Roberts, the producer of the popular series, is too kind to share a beautiful teaser. He hinted an image via Instagram that shows a cobblestone tunnel with a mysterious caption that sparked fans to conclude that it is the location of the alley leading to the print shop. Their reunion is one of the highlights of the third season as both were trapped in the belief that they won’t be seeing each other anymore as dictated by the crucial events that unfolded in the previous chapter of the show.
The viewers of the drama can also expect new faces in the impending season. Conor McCarry who played roles in “The Night Manager” and “Anna Karenina” will be the young adult Jamie. Young Jamie, named after his uncle Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) is the eldest son of Jenny Fraser (Laura Donnelly) and Ian Murray (Steven Cree), and will acquire the Lallybroch estate.
The Dunsany sisters are also set to join the cast of the latest season. Hannah James will play the “beautiful and headstrong” Geneva, while Tanya Reynolds will be the compassionate and simple Isobel.
