Samsung was the first Android licensee to release a tablet. The company has released Galaxy Tabs, Galaxy Note tablets, built Google's Nexus 10 and now a new leak confirms a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Plus is on its way.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Plus is expected to closely resemble the Nexus 10, which makes sense, as Samsung is the current manufacturer of Google's Nexus 10 tablet. The tablet's official model number is GT-P8200. The Galaxy Tab 3 Plus will share the same exact screen as the Nexus 10. It will feature a 10.055-inches, 2,560 x 1,600 300 ppi (pixels per inch) Gorilla Glass 2 display. The display has a higher resolution than Apple's Retina Display iPads.
The Galaxy Tab 3 Plus will also use a 1.7GHz Exynos 5 dual-core CPU. In the camera department, users should expect a 5-megapixel rear camera and a 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera. The Galaxy Tab 3 Plus is expected to have a microSD expansion slot. The tablet is expected to ship with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. Samsung will be offering two versions of the tablet, a Wi-Fi-only model and another with Wi-Fi and a built-in 4G LTE radio.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Plus with 4G LTE was discovered through a Bluetooth SIG filing for the device and its official name is listed as GT-P8220. There has been no word of a possible release date of price. Google currently sells the 16GB Nexus 10 for $399 and the 32GB for $499. Google doesn't currently offer a Nexus 10 with built-in 4G LTE. It is safe to assume Samsung will price the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Plus in that same price range and the 4G LTE model will, of course, cost a bit more for the privilege of having high speed Internet built in.
If the rumors of Apple releasing the iPad 5 in April are true, Samsung is going to have some major competition. Apple is expected to give the iPad 5 a major redesign, making the tablet closely resemble its iPad mini. Apple will also probably add a few more surprises to the iPad 5. Samsung might want to consider getting this tablet out sooner rather than later, because Apple will steal its thunder and sales if the tablets are released around the same time.
