Moon Express is a private company that wants to start offering trips to the moon for $10,000 per ticket. The American company was founded in 2010 by billionaire entrepreneur Naveen Jain and is planning to launch its first unmanned orbital mission next year. Together with Jain, Robert D. Richards and Barney Pell are the are the known founder of the Moon Express Company.

In June 2016, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approved plans for a mission to deliver a commercial package to the moon in late 2017. So far, Moon Express is the only private company to be granted permission (under US law) to leave Earth and land on the moon. The Sun reported that MoonEx say they’ll team up with SpaceX owned by billionaire Elon Musk to send holidaymakers into space. They say that SpaceX will ‘build the rocket’ and Moon Express will ‘do the rover’. And both companies say the aim is for humans to colonise Mars, with the moon a trial run. "It's very complimentary as a matter of fact…Elon will build the rocket and we do the rover," Jain said.
