Galaxy S4 vs. Galaxy S3: Samsung On To Yet Another Winner?

Samsung Galaxy S3 was unquestionably one of the most popular smartphones in 2012, and its successor, the Galaxy S4, is expected to make its appearance on March 14. The question of the moment is if Samsung will be able to create yet another winner and if the Galaxy S4 receives the same welcome as its predecessor.

Here is how the rumored specifications of Galaxy S4 compare to the Galaxy S3:

Display

The Galaxy S3 sports a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED display, 1280 x 720 pixels resolution and 306 pixels per inch (ppi). Rumors indicate that the Galaxy S4 will boast a 4.99-inch Super AMOLED full HD display with 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution and an incredible 440 ppi.

Processor

A 1.4GHz Exynos quad-core processor for the international variant and a 1.5GHz Qualcomm S4 dual-core processor for U.S. variants powers the Galaxy S3. It is believed, that the Galaxy S4 will have a 1.8GHz Exynos 5 Octa-Core CPU, which Samsung showed off at the International CES 2013. Rumors also indicate that Samsung will only release one variant of the phone globally.

Camera

The Galaxy S3 is equipped with an 8-megapixel rear-facing snapper and a 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera. Speculations suggest that the upcoming Galaxy S4 will pack in a 13-megapixel rear-facing and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera.

Battery

A 2100 mAh battery powers the Galaxy S3. Rumors indicate that a bigger 2600 mAh battery will power the Galaxy S4. Additionally, the Galaxy S4 is also speculated to support wireless charging, probably Qi inductive charging, and Samsung is rumored to release a wireless charging kit soon after the official release of Galaxy S4.

Internal Storage And RAM

The Galaxy S3 has 16/32/64 GB of on-board storage and an option to expand the memory using a microSD card. No information regarding the internal storage for Galaxy S4 is available, but users will hope for at least the same memory capacity as of the Galaxy S3.

The Galaxy S3 has 1GB of RAM (2GB of RAM for U.S. versions). The Galaxy S4 is expected to have 2GB of RAM.

Operating System

At launch, the Galaxy S3 came pre-loaded with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) upgradable to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, whereas the Galaxy S4 is expected to run on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean or Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie out of the box.

Availability And Colors

The Galaxy S3 was released in May 2012 and was initially launched in Marble White and Pebble Blue colors. As the popularity of the smartphone increased Samsung launched the handset in various other hues.

Only a few days remain untl Samsung confirms the official release date, prices and color options of the upcoming Galaxy S4 smartphone.

On paper, like all successors, the leaked specifications of the Galaxy S4 are definitely a step ahead of the Galaxy S3. What's more, the Galaxy S4 is speculated to feature eye-tracking technology as well as the S Pen stylus. It remains to be seen if Samsung has created yet another winner in the form of Galaxy S4.
