Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 Jelly Bean 4.2.2 Update: How To Get It

Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 is coming to a Galaxy Tab 2 near you, provided you're savvy enough. The release comes by way of the CyanogenMod team and will update your Galaxy Tab 2 — currently running Android 4.1.1 — to Jelly Bean 4.2.2. It's based on the CM10.1 M2 Jelly Bean ROM.

If you're running a Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 and wish to upgrade to the latest version of Jelly Bean without bricking your tablet, you'll do well to follow this simple, step-by-step guide.

Preparations:

One does not simply update a Galaxy Tab 2.

Make sure you have the latest USB drivers installed for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 on your computer and that your handset is charged to at least 80 percent.

Next, enable USB Debugging Mode on your handset, which will allow it to work with the Android SDK. Debugging Mode can be enabled by navigating to Menu >> Settings >> Applications >> Development.

For this update, you'll need a factory-unlocked, rooted Galaxy Tab 2 with ClockworkMod recovery installed. We do not recommend attempting the update without any of these three requisites.

Create a backup of your device before proceeding further.

Step 1) Download CM10.1 M2 Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 ROM for the Galaxy Tab 2. The P5100 download can be obtained here, and the P5110 is available here.

Step 2) Download Google Apps.

Step 3) Copy the downloaded files to the Galaxy Tab using the SD card.

Step 4) Turn off your handset, then put it in recovery mode by turning it back on while holding down the Power and Volume Down buttons.

Step 5) Once in CWM recovery, the first thing you need to do is wipe your data. If you didn't pay attention earlier and forgot to backup your data, STOP NOW.

Step 6) Navigate to "choose zip from SD card" and select it by pushing the Power button. Select the ROM file you copied to the SD card earlier and press the Power button again to choose it, then again to confirm it.

Step 7) Follow the procedure from Step 6 to install Google Apps.

Step 8) Return to the main recovery menu and select the "reboot system now" option. It will take about five minutes for your tablet to restart. Do nothing until it has finished.

You are now updated to CM10.1 M2 Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. Kudos.
