Shigeru Miyamoto made a guest appearance on the Jimmy Kimmel Show and revealed another one of his amazing talents. The guy is not only funny but boy can he make those cool guitar licks like a pro.
Kimmel asked Miyamoto if he could play the Super Mario theme song along with Kimmel's in-house band, Root. The game designer gamely gave in to Kimmel and gave a live rendition of the Super Mario theme song. He played the acoustic guitar gleefully and you forgot for once that he is a game designer and not a musician.
For those who are not aware, Miyamoto is, in fact, a musician even before he made a name in the gaming world. He formed a band where he played the banjo when he was in college. He and his band would perform in various venues in Japan.
There are many interesting facts about Miyamoto that goes beyond gaming and Super Mario. Aside from Mario and Donkey Kong, Miyamoto has around 226 game titles he created and was involved in. He didn't imagine he would be this big when all he dreamed about when he was young was to become a cartoonist in Walt Disney.
He was the Number One most influential person in TIME Magazine's Reader's Choice Award in 2008. He also has a star in Hollywood's Walk of Fame and was inducted in the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences' Hall of Fame in 1998.
Asked before what his plans are after Super Mario, he gleefully replied, "What comes next? Super Mario 128? Actually, that's what I want to do."
