If you only have a PlayStation 4 as your gaming medium, then chances are you just got introduced to ARK: Survival Evolved. Stuck in a world full of dinosaurs and prehistoric predators, your goal is to keep yourself alive for as long as you can. Thankfully, the game has provided lots of ways to help survive. One of which involves having these predators as pets.
How To Tame Animals In Ark: Survival Evolved
As I have previously expressed, taming dinosaurs or other animals in Ark: Survival Evolved is pretty much like catching Pokemon. You got to have some balls to face dinosaurs and you don't want to kill them either. In Pokemon games, you have to make them weak enough to be more susceptible to a Poke Ball, while in Ark, you have to apply enough force to make them faint.
The taming process in Ark: Survival Evolved occurs while they're sedated, so for that, you will need a lot of Narcoberries to prevent the animals from waking up. You tame the beast by regularly feeding it. It's actually a lot more effective if you lower down its hunger to below 50 percent before feeding it for the first time.
For Ark: Survival Evolved carnivores, raw prime meat is the best meal, but you can also use cooked prime meat so it would last longer in the inventory. If you can't find any prime meat around, any meat will do. For herbivores, you want Mejoberries and for Carrions, you want spoiled meat.
Feed them their meals or Narcoberries by putting the items in their inventory. They will not voluntarily eat Narcos, though, so you have to Remote Use it. You have to constantly feed them the berries, but make sure you only do so one at a time.
This will take a lot of time, so you can do other things outside Ark: Survival Evolved while waiting. Just remember to keep them asleep. There is a taming progress bar so you how the process is going so far. Once it's filled, then congratulations as you finally have a cool pet!
Benefits Of Taming In Ark: Survival Evolved
Dinosaurs serve several purposes once tamed. You can use the predators as destructive weapons or use the herbivores as a ride. They can also store some goods for you to keep your body light. Items placed in their inventory would also take longer to spoil.
As the Ark: Survival Evolved world continues even when you're offline, it's a good measure to have some dino guards protecting your base and your tribe. Taming isn't limited to dinosaurs, though. Even the Dodo bird has a use: they can be pretty handy if you're collecting feces for your Compost Bin and Farm. Don't get too attached to it, however, as they can easily be killed.
The only ones you can't tame are: Alpha Predators, Broodmother Lysrix, The Dragon, Megapithecus, Manticore, Coelacanth, Eurypterid, Meganeura, Piranha, Sabertooth Salmon, Titanoboa, Titanomyrma, and Trilobite. Those found in the Swamp Cave and Snow Cave are untamable, too, without the use of the forcetame command.
