Rihanna 'Apologetic' Over Boston Cancellation

Rihanna kicked off her "Diamonds World Tour" Friday (March 8) in Buffalo, N.Y. and the show was well received. Unfortunately, Boston fans were disappointed Sunday evening when the "Stay" singer fell ill with laryngitis and was forced to cancel her performance.

Rihanna apologized for canceling the show Sunday, saying she had no choice due to laryngitis. The 25-year-old singer is on a world tour supporting her latest album "Unapologetic," which is heating up the charts worldwide. The Diamonds World Tour was announced last year after her epic opening performance at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards. Rihanna's previous tour, the "Loud Tour," was highly successful and grossed 90 million worldwide.

Live Nation released a statement on Sunday morning about the cancellation and assured fans the show will be rescheduled at a later date: "Unfortunately, following her sold out concert on Friday Rihanna has contracted laryngitis and per doctor's instruction is unable to perform this evening. Boston fans are instructed to retain their tickets pending rescheduling show date information," said Live Nation, in a statement received by iTechPost.

Rihanna apologized to fans for the cancellation using her Twitter account, "#BOSTON this is the hardest thing for me to deal with! I feel like we've been waiting on this day forever, and I'm hurt that I let you down," tweeted the Barbados-born superstar. Rihanna is expected to return to the stage on March 12 for a performance in Baltimore, Md.

The North American leg of Rihanna's Diamonds World Tour will travel to major U.S. cities including Los Angeles, Chicago and Brooklyn, N.Y. at the Barclays Center. From there, Rihanna takes the tour to Africa and Europe, with the final show ending on July 28, in Helsinki, Finland.

Rihanna has an impressive music catalog of hit songs that includes 12 #1 hit singles. Since the beginning of her career in 2005 she has become one the best selling artists of all time. She has sold 25 million records worldwide and 75 million singles. Last year, Rihanna was crowned the best selling digital artist ever.
