The Galaxy S4 reveal is only two days away now, and as the event gets closer you can almost smell the confidence dripping from Samsung. If you believe the South Korean giant, Apple has lost its shine and the world is ready to crown a new king: the Galaxy S4.
The iPhone 5 recently gave Apple a boost in momentum worldwide, but anonymous insiders are saying that Samsung is anything but worried. In fact, one of the main reasons Samsung chose Radio City Music Hall in New York City to reveal the Galaxy S4 is to declare all-out war against Apple in its strongest market, the United States.
''Since New York is nicknamed the Big Apple, which is also the symbol and heart of the United States, Samsung picked that city for the event,'' one insider said, according to the Korea Times.
Samsung is hoping the Galaxy S4 will give it a chance to impress U.S. customers and pull them away from Apple. The company has already slighted Cupertino through its advertisements. Now it has to put up a worthy product.
''We are highly positive that the new Galaxy will receive a favorable response from consumers and markets. By releasing the S4 on Apple's home-turf, Samsung wants to show we can effectively manage our smartphone business even in the United States,'' another insider said.
All this confidence is based on the fact that the Galaxy S4 will feature better hardware and an improved screen. The paper seems to confirm that the S4 will run on the eight-core Exynos Octa processor, doubling the phone's power over the previous S3. Meanwhile, a 5-inch screen is expected as well as 2GB of memory.
''These wow factors will draw attention. If we can beat Apple on its home turf, then we will be seen as the real global leader in smartphones by consumers,'' the insider said.
Samsung is already the most popular phone maker in the world, despite the fact that many research firms show Galaxy S3 sales falling to the iPhone 5 last quarter. The Galaxy S4 will likely help Samsung regain its momentum worldwide, but America remains the puzzle-yet-to-be-solved. Suppliers, at least, are bullish.
''Apple is somewhat losing its creativeness and revolutionary features," a senior executive at a local supplier for Samsung said. "That's why its stock is falling. In contrast, Samsung is regarded as the firm that has been pursuing evolution and sells competitive products with better pricing based on a huge advantage in manufacturing."
The S4 is scheduled to be revealed on March 14.
