There are only two more days left until the unofficial trading season begins and the NBA enthusiasts are already all eyes on the transactions that are about to happen on Thursday. DeMarcus Cousins is topping the trading block list but behind him are other superstars who have also been hot topics of NBA trade rumors. Anthony Davis, for instance, is once again dominating the trade speculations and the latest buzz might just make him the most talked about moving star this trading week.
The New Orleans Pelicans' power forward is being expected to make a move as the Dec. 15 unofficial season begins. If it happens though that his agents won't opt him out of his contract, speculations say that the 23-year-old superstar will flee his team anytime before the February trade deadline.
The latest rumors have it that this three-time NBA All-Star player will split with his slumping team to join a team with a higher chance at the playoffs. Davis is recently rumored to join the top MVP bet, Russell Westbrook in the OKC Thunder. Westbrook is reportedly fifth in front court strategy while Davis comes behind at sixth. Putting them alongside each other will make them a monster frontcourt duo which the Thunder might need to cement them on a higher spot at the Western Conference.
The Pelicans are not advancing and are currently stuck at the bottom three of their division. The regular season might still be far from its mid, but going against the GSW or the Spurs will make it impossible for the Pelicans to secure a spot at the playoffs. The Thunder, on the other hand, have a better chance of stepping in this season's finals. Davis is undeniably an ideal player being an impeccable front court player and a rim protector as well. A lot of NBA observers have been suggesting for the young star to seek his luck with better teams as he is seemingly wasting his talents in a non-improving team.
Westbrook, on the other hand, is on his breakout season ever since Kevin Durant left his post with the OKC. Durant's decision to join the GSW has made the league recognize Westbrook's potential and is even a top bet at the MVP race this season.
With Davis possibly playing for a wrong team and with Westbrook in need for more backups, their partnership might just surprise the teams in the league with their combined strategy and talent. The suggested deal though is a bit pricey for the Thunder as they are to send away five players to the Pelicans including Victor Oladipo, Cameron Payne, Domantas Sabonis, Steven Adams, and the Thunder's first round draft pick in 2017. This 5-player move though might be worth the move since Davis still has a lot more years to render to his NBA career which also means more years for the superstar to level up.
The deal though still remains as a suggestion as it is not yet clear if Davis will be eligible for trade this season. We might see him ditch his contract with the Pelicans and move to his lucky chosen team, but it might take a little longer as he still might have to finish this season with his current team.
