Samsung S8 'Finger Print Scanner' Is Said To Be Released By Synaptics Today

Ultrasonic fingerprint scanners may be the next new rage to hit our smartphones since we've already witnessed LG and Qualcomm announce new technology using these scanners. Well, today Synaptics, one of Samsung's suppliers of fingerprint scanners, unveiled a new model, which could very well make a debut through the Samsung Galaxy S8.

The Natural ID FS9100 Fingerprint Sensor

The new optical fingerprint sensors are created for placement under the cover glass which includes 2.5D glass, located in the front, bottom bezel of devices", according to Synaptics. This sounds familiar to what we've been seeing so far. This new fingerprint sensor can be put under the front 2.5 glass, by removing the need for a standard home button. The technology enables for high-resolution scanning over 1mm of full cover glass.

Under the exterior, glass biometrics eliminates button cut-outs and glass thinning developing required by capacitive under-glass sensors, leads to glass yield enhancements. The highly reliable FS9100 optical solution exceed with wet finger performance and can be protected by glass, is enduring, scratchproof, also waterproof, and excludes ESD concerns.

What We Should Know And Expect

If you add in the fact that Synaptics has also released a new pressure-sensitive display, Samsung can be able to tap the company to be one of the main dealers for the upcoming device. Moreover, there is the concern of making sure that these parts will be handy in time for Samsung to announce the release of the device. Since the sensor will be concealed behind the glass of its respective smartphone, it should also be more reliable. We will have to wait and check, though, if scratches on the glass will affect its performance.

If speculations are to be believed, we won't have to wait for that too long. The new Samsung flagship should be announced in Spring, 2017. Stay tuned for more updates.
