Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean Update V20A For LG Optimus 4X HD Leaked

LG confirmed last month that Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean would be coming to the LG Optimus 4X HD, Optimus L7 and Optimus L9. This week, the update leaked ahead of its scheduled release with a version number designated V20A, which has been spotted previously on LG's testing servers.

The 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update is available now. A number of users have downloaded the update and installed it on their devices. Already, we're hearing reports of longer battery life, new features, smoother operation and better network signal.

Be warned however, that this is a beta version. If you absolutely need to have the latest and greatest, the leaked firmware can be found on the XDA-Developers forum. There will be tradeoffs, though.

OTC does not work on this build and the bootloader is locked. Users have also reported that certain apps seem to be missing, although details are light at this point. If you install the update and find yourself unsatisfied, it may be difficult to flash your device back to an official version of the Android firmware.

The safest bet would be to hold off a bit, as LG has promised an official rollout of Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean in the not too distant future. We know that won't sway most of you, though.

The new firmware package is 602.7 MB and is archived in .kdz format.

If the disclaimers haven't swayed you yet, here is a step-by-step guide on how to install the update. Please note it is intended for advanced users.

Preparations:

One does not simply manually update an Android.

Before proceeding, make sure to backup your device and install the latest drivers.

Step 1) Turn off your phone.

Step 2) Hold the Volume Down key while connecting your phone via USB.

Step 3) Once connected, your device should display an S/W screen mode. If you don't see this, it means your USB drivers are not current.

Step 4) Remove, then re-insert the battery.

Step 5) In device manager, select "disable LGE Modem."

Step 6) Right-click on KDZ_FW_UPD.exe and run it as an administrator. Do the same for Enabler.exe.

Step 7) Click on the Windows Enabler icon once, which will appear near the clock in the taskbar.

Step 8) In KDZ_FW_UPD.exe, choose 3GQTC as the type and DIAG for PhoneMode.

Step 9) Find the .kdz file and click "Launch software update."

Step 10) Do nothing until flashing is complete, even if the window says it is not responding.

Once the phone reboots, you are (un)officially updated. Kudos.
