iPhone 8 Will Get Much Of It's Power From Imagination's New GPU

Apple's powerful iPhone 7 GPU is set on Imagination Technologies' PowerVR GT7600 architecture, and a possible next in line could come next year. Imagination will launch the Series8XT family of GPUs, and that could provide the underlying technology for graphics in the iPhone 8. It will succeed the Series7XT family of GPUs. Here's everything you need to know.

The iPhone 7's GPU Can Overheat If Runs At Peak Speeds For A Long Time

One of the analysts from Linley Group said the iPhone 7 GPU is the fastest within all mobile processors when running at peak speed. The Series8XT will be even faster, and more efficient when it comes to power. The iPhone 7 GPU can also overheat quickly if it runs at peak speed for a long period of time.

The Linley Group explained as well that the iPhone 7 recycled the PowerVR GT7600 in its design built for its A10 Fusion silicon package which is the Series7XT processor was already seen as far back as on the Apple A9. The benchmarks have constantly returned stellar results for the pixel. Analysts added that it will get more horsepower while cutting down consumption of power. Imagination states that 8XT will add more features and functions than prior products already have. A product lineup is awaited at the Game Developers Conference in late February.

The Series 8XT Could Offer Faster Performance And Power Efficient

Beyond smartphones, the company's GPUs also are being used in set-top boxes, as well as TVs and other devices pressing graphics power or focusing on visual computing. Imagination this year launch the 8XE GPU, that was focused on the fast-growing low-end and also mid-range phones market. The Series8XT is said to offer more performance and more energy-efficient than the iPhone 7's GPU. Stay tuned for more updates.
