In the spirit of the holiday season, Niantic has placed new updates and additional Pokemon in Pokemon GO just in time for the holiday season. One of the most notable of these additions is Pikachu wearing a Santa hat.
You can get Pikachu with a Santa hat by hunting it until Dec. 29. but what about if you want a Raichu? Raichu is Pikachu's next evolution stage. Recently, Raichu got a makeover in Pokemon Sun and Moon with additional psychic skills. Originally, Pikachu can evolve into Raichu by exposing it to a Thunder Stone. However, the mechanics in evolving Pikachu on Pokemon GO is different and simple. All you have to do is to feed Pikachu with 50 Pikachu candies and it can evolve into Raichu.
Here's the surprise, if you evolve a holiday Pikachu, you will also get a Raichu wearing a Santa hat. Most of all, you can keep both of the Santa hat wearing Raichu and Pikachu even after Dec. 29. This was revealed by Niantic in their official Twitter page.
"Trainers, Raichu will have a festive hat if evolved from #HolidayPikachu, and both will keep the hat permanently even after Dec. 29, 2016," the announcement said.
Aside from Pikachu, it was earlier announced as well that some of the creatures from 1999's Pokemon Gold and Silver will also be introduced in the game. However, they will not be hunted like the other Pokemon but will be hatched. That means it will require trainers to walk a few kilometers each day to have them. As announced earlier, some of those Pokemon that can be incubated from eggs include Pichu, Togepi, Cleffa, Elekid, and Magby.
Pichu can usually be found in eggs that takes 5 kilometers to hatch. Some of the easily-hatched Pokemon include Cleffa and Igglybuff. On the other hand, Elekid and Magby is quite difficult because it will take you 10 kilometers in order to hacth them.
