New Overwatch Heroes Doomfist, Soundquake: Who Are They?

It holds true that Blizzard didn't make a good impression during Sombra's entire ARG shenanigans in Overwatch. However, one can't deny the fact that the studio knows how to develop interesting characters. With the release of a new one, players can't really expect the devs to introduce another hero or two to the game. Nonetheless, it's still worth investigating.

Who Is Doomfist?

Doomfist is probably the only non-playable hero who has a good amount of information -- be it in-game or not. The very first time this hero was mentioned was during a cinematic trailer. The video depicts a battle between Winston/Tracer and Reaper/Widowmaker. The heart of the matter of their feud is Doomfist's gauntlet. It's basically the one that's levitating in a glass case (something that can also be seen in the Numbani map).

Towards the end of the Overwatch animated short, the kid uses the gauntlet and punches Widowmaker. And sure enough, it shook the very existence of the deadly sniper. It also comes with a huge explosion, so to speak. Now, it's safe to say that the gauntlet might just be the main weapon of Doomfist in the game.

Doomfist's Presence In-Game

Apart from the cinematic trailer, the hero also has a couple of nods in the game. For instance, as mentioned above, his gauntlet can be seen in the Numbani map. Add to that the fact that he has a banner himself, hanging on the walls for what appears to be an exhibit of sort.

As what players can see in the banners in Overwatch, it could mean that Doomfist is a title that gets passed down from one guy to another. That, in one way or another, it'll work according to whoever wields the aforementioned gauntlet. What's interesting is the banner with the title that says "The Successor." Somehow, this could be a clue suggesting that the hero will soon arrive to the game.

Who Is Soundquake?

Same like Doomfist, Soundquake's upcoming existence to the game is also a mystery. Nonetheless, an animated short (same as the one mentioned above) for the game points out to a couple of references about the hero. One is when the young boy says "In that one battle, they had Soundquake -- remember he has, like, chest missiles?" Based on this, one can ferret out an idea of what the hero's weaponry is.

While both heroes are interesting additions to Overwatch (if they will be added), there's no telling though. Perhaps Blizzard won't move to such direction yet, especially with the arrival of Sombra. Remember that it took the video game company a good amount of time before unleashing the titular hacker in the game. But hey, it's not really impossible.

Blizzard really knows how to tease the community. And one of these is by way of referencing future characters in the previous animated shorts they've released. Oh well, only time can tell before these new characters will be officially announced.
