The LG Nexus 4 has been in high demand since Google released the handset in November 2012. The device has been surrounded by supply issues, but the wireless charger has attracted the attention of many, and now the charger is landing in Canada.
Canadian customers who want to get rid of the traditional wall charger can now buy the wireless charger, which costs $59.99 and is available from the Google Play store. The expected delivery time for the charger is three to five working days.
The charger looks like a spherical object that's been flattened on one end, and it is conveniently held in an upright position so you can still use the device on top of it. The wireless charger uses Qi inductive technology. The device weighs 4.58 ounces, which is just a little lighter than the phone itself, which weighs 4.90 ounces.
There is no external LED to indicate when the device is charging, so you'll have to rely on the handset display to check and see if your Nexus 4 is being juiced. On the back is a recessed microUSB plug.
The wireless charger is made up of matte plastic that feels quite good to the touch and is easy to grip. The bottom rim is made of rubber, so the charger won't slide around on your desk. The outer part of the front rim of the charger is a smooth hard plastic, and the rest of the front face is made of sticky rubber. The rubber makes dropping your Nexus 4 onto the charger soundless and smooth. The face of the charger has magnets to hold the Nexus 4 in place.
The wireless charger is meant for Nexus 4 but you can also charge the Droid DNA, Nokia Lumia 920 and Nokia Lumia 822 on it.
You can fully charge your Nexus 4 on this within four hours. But the question remains: will you pay an additional $60 for a wireless charger?
