Samsung Galaxy S3: Purple Color Variant Headed For Sprint

Samsung recently announced the successor of its Galaxy S3 smartphone, the Galaxy S4, but that doesn't mean the Korean smartphone market leader has forgotten about its old warhorse. According to reports, a purple variant of the Galaxy S3 has surfaced online and is headed for U.S. carrier Sprint.

The image of the purple Galaxy S3 comes courtesy of the noted tipster who goes by the Twitter handle "@evleaks." The close-up shot of the purple-colored Galaxy S3 reveals both the front and rear of the smartphone in detail.

"A new image shared by @evleaks this evening shows a purple version of the Galaxy S III, complete with Sprint branding on its backside. The unit looks just like a typical GSIII outside of the purple color, complete with a physical home button, capacitive menu and back keys and slightly protruding rear camera," reports PhoneDog.

According to @evleaks' Twitter post, the purple version of the Sprint Galaxy S3 will release in mid-April. Earlier in March, rumors were rife that Sprint would launch a purple variant of the Galaxy S3 on April 12.

"According to data contained in the screenshot that was sent to us this morning, Sprint is readying a purple Samsung Galaxy S III. The said device, carrying 16GB of native storage space, is supposedly scheduled to launch on April 12, or in about 5 weeks from today. Unfortunately, pricing has not been disclosed by our tipster," noted the PhoneArena report at the time.

Currently, the 4.8-inch Galaxy S3 is available in Marble White, Pebble Blue, Titanium Gray, Garnet Red, Amber Brown, Sapphire Black and Martian Pink. However, the availability of some of the colors is region-specific.

The launch of the Galaxy S3 in purple could be a clever marketing ploy on the part of Samsung to breathe a fresh lease of life into its older offering.

Would you be keen on picking up the Galaxy S3 in purple or would rather wait for the Galaxy S4 to hit the shelves? Let us know in the comments.
