During a recent interview, Larry Hryb, director of programming for Xbox LIVE, spoke about the significant progress that has taken the industry with regards to the sales of digital titles and how this technology is going to allow players to bring their games to any future platform of the Xbox.
Hyrb on the world's approach to digital purchases on games
"I think the world is with every passing year and month, every passing moment the world is getting more and more comfortable with digital purchases, and frankly, that's what consumers are currently demanding," Hyrb said. "They want to be able to have that flexibility of content, unlocking and being available the moment a game is released. Being able to download it at their convenience."
Hyrb on Xbox Play Anywhere
He also talked about Xbox Play Anywhere, a Microsoft program that started this year, which allows players to purchase the digital version of an Xbox One and receive a digital copy for Windows 10 at no extra cost.
"We wanted to make sure that gaming for Microsoft also equals Xbox. The Xbox has always been a gaming console, and over the last year and a half or so, you've seen it molding into the gaming brand for Microsoft. Under that, it can only mean what you want it to mean."
Hyrb also said that whether you are a part of the PC industry that wants to have the latest and greatest in 4K gaming, 120 frames per second, that whole routine. Or maybe you just want to sit down and play some great games on a console and don't have time for that. Xbox is trying to make it sure that they have something for everybody, no matter how they want to play their games.
Xbox is more than just a console
Hyrb also said that he hopes consumers to interact with Xbox as a platform, rather than a piece of hardware. With this, we will be seeing whether the upcoming Xbox Scorpio will also be an important part of this movement and in the future.
