Pokémon is arguably one of the best and longest running game franchises in history, which had just reached a new milestone of 20 years in existence. Over the years, we've followed the game's path of evolution as it treads across time - constantly growing and expanding its lore. Now, Pokémon has grown so much that it diverged into multitude of timelines which leaves some of us wondering, where are we heading? Today, we'll try to figure out the course that Game Freak wanted Pokémon to stride to and what the studio is trying to foreshadow.
Pokémon Sun and Moon: Definitive Timeline
Throughout its 20 years of existence, Pokémon has spawned seven Generations of games which, Pokémon Sun and Moon being its latest flagship. Now, to start off, let's try to recap what exactly is the correct timeline of the entire series. Well, Game Freak's scenario designer, Toshinobu Matsumiya has given us a clear overview of the game's true timeline.
As you can see, the official timeline of the game is Fire/Red Leaf Green/Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire -> Heartgold/Soulsilver/Diamond/Pearl -> Black/White -> Black 2/White 2/X/Y. Now the slash indicates that they occur at the same time while the arrow indicates the events following that timeline.
But do we actually know where Pokémon Sun and Moon resides? As of the moment, we still have yet to grasp the current standpoint of Generation VII. But a Reddit thread provides us a theory about the current timeline and the course that Game Freak is moving.
To make the long story short, Generation VII may very well be the events following Black and White due to the several Red and Blue Easter Eggs which can be found here. The theory about Sun and Moon and its current timeline with respect to the other Generations is a lot complicated thus, we will just be assuming that the popular theory is true.
Pokémon Sun and Moon: Where Are We Heading?
As you can see, Anabel is thought to have been ripped off from one dimension (Ruby and Sapphire) into Sun and Moon which is backed up by her existing Pokémon not having any Mega Evolution. Now, is it possible that Pokémon can also traverse through these dimensions and travel across time?
If so, this is a huge foreshadowing about an entity not known in the current Pokémon universe to have existed in the end of time or possibly during the first conception of the universe to travel in the upcoming sequel. This may sound like a context taken out from a children's fairytale but remember that UBs are beings of great powers and are entirely new in the Pokémon Universe. Personally, we're thinking that we may be seeing an entity far greater than that of Arceus, "The Original One."
