T-Mobile has set a press conference for March 26 and touts some major changes are looming.
The event is scheduled for 11 a.m. EDT on March 26 in New York. According to the invite sent out Monday, T-Mobile says "we're still a wireless company. We're just not going to act like one anymore."
Guesses are that the company will become a no-contract carrier and introduce a new 4G LTE. Per CNET, rumors are swirling around that the carrier may stop subsidizing its phones as early as March 24. Other rumors indicate the company may offer Apple products, but these maybe a little farfetched.
It is believed the company will announce its new hybrid 4G LTE and 42Mbps GSM network at event. This is conjunction with recent software updates to Samsung Galaxy Note 2 devices that enable support for 4G LTE, according to CNET.
The new network will operate on 1,900MHz band, allowing unlocked global GSM handsets, or those originally made for AT&T bandwidth, to operate on T-Mobile's network.
Last week, iTechPost reported the Federal Trade Commission approved T-Mobile's merger with pre-paid carrier MetroPCS. However, MetroPCS's largest investor, Paulson & Co. has publicly stated it intends to block the deal when it's up for shareholder approval. The company's founder, John Paulson, said in a letter in February that he believes the combined companies would share too much debt.
