Samsung Galaxy S4: New Benchmark Proves It Defeats HTC One, iPhone 5, And Optimus G Pro

With the Samsung Galaxy S4's unveiling having taken place in Times Square last week, we now know what the thing looks like, what specs it rocks and almost everything else we need to know about the darn thing.

But how does the Samsung Galaxy S4 actually stack up?

As it turns out, the speed of the Samsung Galaxy S4 beats every other phone currently on the market.

Primate Labs has used numbers charted from Geekbench -- a cross-platform benchmarking utility that permits us to see comparisons of computer chipsets across the OS spectrum -- to show us just how and why the Galaxy S4 leaves all other smartphones in the dust.

By "leaving in the dust," we mean that with the Galaxy S4 running the most recent iteration of Snapdragon, it clocked in at an impressive 1.9 GHz. The HTC One does have the same chipset, but it still clocked in at only 1.7 GHz, according to an analysis by Phone Arena.

The benchmark shows that the Galaxy S4 is nearly twice as fast as the iPhone 5 (clocking in at 1.3 GHz). Phone Arena says it ran the same test for the Optimus G Pro (also sporting an Snapdragon 600), which received a 2878 point-score, further proving Galaxy S4 (with its 3163 points) is truly numero uno.

"It's clear that the Samsung Galaxy S 4 will be the fastest smartphone available when it is released in April," Primate Labs says. "What's not clear is how the Galaxy S4 will handle the increased power and cooling requirements that generally come with faster processors."

Since the benchmark was only run with the Snapdragon variant, Primate Labs admits we can only surmise what the score would be with the other variant's Exynos 5 octa-core processor. It does suspect the scores would be comparable, though.

Other highlights glommed from the chart include the fact that the Galaxy S4 is twice as fast as the Galaxy S3, which is "a remarkable achievement" in Primate Labs' opinion, considering the S4 forebear was released less than a year ago.

"Again, I'm amazed at how quickly smartphone performance has improved," Primate Labs says. "We've gone from the original iPhone with a Geekbench score of 130 to the Samsung Galaxy S 4 with a Geekbench score of 3100 in only six years."
