The gaming market around the world is worth $91 billion in 2016, Superdata Research reported. The mobile gaming industry, which is made more popular with Clash Royale and Pokemon GO, made a $41 billion market. The PC games, however, gathered $36 the entire year, attributing mainly to downloadable games and free online titles.
Premium PC Games Gathered $5.4 Billion
PC's premium revenues reached $5.4 billion in 2016, a figure not too far behind from consoles, which gathered $6.6 billion. Overwatch topped the list with $586 million, CS:GO, Minecraft, Guild Wars 2, Fallout 4 came in next. The biggest portion, however, remained with free games such as League of Legends that topped the list at $1.7 billion. Dota 2, World of Tanks, Crossfire, Dungeon Fighter Challenge came next in ranks with $260 million all in all.
While esports and free game markets were expected to experience healthy earnings in the next years, PC games has been predicted to slightly decline in 2017 and bounce back in 2018. Overwatch, EVE Online, and Rocket League developers, for this reason, have been careful with the virtual items implementation, making some tradeable so as to prohibit gaming in the in-game currencies.
Superdata reported that PC games valuation is according to premium games, free games, and subscriptions. However, there were also estimations since companies like Riot and Valve don't release statistics publicly.
