Blackberry has released a follow-up to its REO Speedwagon music video parody in the form of a recently posted vid that both promotes its Blackberry 10 OS and pokes harmless fun at Etta James' sultry "At Last."
The video starts with a title card telling us, "On January 30, BlackBerry 10 arrived ... " and what follows — beyond the "One journey begins, another ends" title card — is an intimate-styled stage show with a group of geeky guys doing the "unplugged" version of "At Last."
After the bespectacled chubby singer smirks his way through the opening lyrics of the song — while we hear the audience cheering and patronizingly clapping as though this were some coffee shop gathering (over the sound of a solo piano despite also seeing an acoustic guitar that goes unheard) — the song changes into something much more.
The song becomes a true advertorial for BlackBerry 10 in breakout, rocking fashion — electric guitar, drums and all.
Lyrics transition from what we know of as "At Last" to become:
"At last, two new devices good to go ... "
" ... complete with legendary keyboards ..."
" ... BlackBerry Balance Hub and Flow ... "
And on throughout the rest of the parody song Weird Al-style, until we reach the inevitable "BlackBerry 10 at last."
Funnily enough, the last shots of the video parody reveal that the singer, along with all of the band members, are in fact BlackBerry vice presidents (Global Alliances and Business Development, Developer Relations, et al).
Released last January, BlackBerry 10 is an OS system based on QNX and is the third such release by the company which acquired QNX back in 2010.
Let us hope this does not portend a third release of the BlackBerry band's parody music.
