As reported today, evidence that Apple is working with Energous. It is a company which is developing a wireless charger that can work over up to 15ft, that means the device it’s charging doesn’t need to be in contact with it.
iPhone 8 Wireless Charger Works Up To15ft Away From The Power Supply
According to Apple Insider, it is noted that someone who worked as Regulatory Certification Program Manager at Apple for seven straight years has recently taken a similar job at Energous. While another senior Energous employee is a member of the same wireless charging ANSI Working Group as Apple. Energous is also apparently aiming to release a mid-range transmitter sometime in the third or early fourth quarter of 2017. Many say that it could be in time for the expected iPhone 8 launch.
If the iPhone 8 does have long-distance wireless charging, such as the rumored 15 ft long distance, that could give it a massive selling point over the competition. It definitely makes wireless charging genuinely a lot more useful than wired. But until now, that’s still a big if. But even if it just uses more conventional short-range wireless charging it looks like the Apple iPhone 8 could go wire-free, as it’s also recently been rumored that Foxconn is experimenting with the tech for Apple, as mentioned by Tech Radar.
iPhone To Have Glass Casing For Fast Wireless Charging
Apple may adopt an all-glass design for the iPhone 8, according to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. As of now, Apple iPhone casings are made of metal. Shifting to glass design will allow the iPhone 8 to feature faster wireless charging, since metal-cased smartphones cap wireless charging speeds.
The wireless chargers will be manufactured by Pegatron, a Taiwanese electronics company, as reported by Tech Times. If wireless charging is indeed in the cards, a more pressing question is whether Apple will ship the new smartphone with a wireless charger in tow, or sell it separately, in a very upsetting Apple-like fashion.
