Startup Designs Anti-Surveillance Sunglasses

You can now buy yourself a cool pair of shades called Reflectacles, which can protect your privacy while you are out in public.

Anti-Surveillance Sunglasses

The privacy-protection sunglasses are designed by a startup and more details are to be found on the company's website. The project has been co-founded on Kickstarter. The idea for these surveillance-defeating glasses came at a time when our privacy is less and less protected.

The Reflectacles glasses are the project of Scott Urban who claims that wearing them ensures the user is anonymous and noticed at the same time. When captured by CCTV the light-reflecting frames make your face look like a big, shiny blur. The facial recognition tech is rendered useless since the wearer's face can't be seen behind the bright glare of the glasses.

The light doesn't impair the wearer's vision and isn't produced by batteries. This light is simply reflecting in a big way the ambient light or a camera flash, so the shades appear super illuminated to other people.

According to Network World, in a growing surveillance state, the Reflectacles glasses are meant to protect our identity. They even caught the attention of Edward Snowden and F-Secure's Mikko Hypponen.

When Reflectacles Will Start Shipping?

Reflectacles come as active-wear glasses or dark-tinted sunglasses. For those who wear prescription glasses, prescription lenses could be made to fit the frame.

The Reflectacles sunglasses are not on the market yet, but the Kickstarter project has already raised enough money. The shades will come in seven colors and backers can get a pair for a pledge of $95.

Regular Reflectacles reflect only visible light, but for a pledge of $125 you can get a pair of silver Reflectacles Ghost glasses that reflect visible light as well as infrared light. They can protect users' privacy against any surveillance cameras, including infrared tech.

Backers will still have to wait for their pair of Reflectacles. The startup expects to start shipping only in June 2017. However, if you want to pledge to this cool project on Kickstarter, you only can do it until New Year's Eve.
