Google has officially launched its Evernote competitor, Google Keep. Google Keep is a note-taking service from Google that works on Android 4.0 smartphones and tablets and the Web. The app allows you to securely sync your notes and to-do lists across smartphones, tablets, and computers, using your Google account.
Google Keep allows you to quickly make notes and lists via the Web or an Android 4.0 smartphone or tablet. The app is simple to use and has a very minimalistic interface. You can type notes into Google Keep or use your voice to record and transcribe voice memos. The Android app also comes with a handy widget that allows you to create and access notes on your home screen and lock screen. You can also take pictures with your Android device and pin photos to your notes and lists. You can prioritize your notes and lists by assigning colors, and you can also drag and drop your notes to keep what's most important at the top. All of your information is synced securely in the cloud. When you want to access Google Keep from a Web browser, all of your information is available by going to https://drive.google.com/keep.
Google explains why it created Google Keep on its blog and also created a short video introducing the app and service:
"Every day we all see, hear or think of things we need to remember. Usually we grab a pad of sticky-notes, scribble a reminder and put it on the desk, the fridge or the relevant page of a magazine. Unfortunately, if you're like me you probably often discover that the desk, fridge or magazine wasn't such a clever place to leave the note after all ... it's rarely where you need it when you need it.
To solve this problem we've created Google Keep. With Keep you can quickly jot ideas down when you think of them and even include checklists and photos to keep track of what's important to you. Your notes are safely stored in Google Drive and synced to all your devices so you can always have them at hand."
