Following the launch of the 2017 Subaru Impreza, fans and enthusiasts are anticipating the changes that are coming with the WRX STI. Unfortunately, Subaru says a new WRX STI is coming but not anytime soon. Apparently, major changes are not easily made.
The Recent Updates
There is very little that changed in the new Subaru WRX STI. In terms of power, the previous version had an output of 290 horsepower. According to a report from Digital Trends, the new Subaru WRX STI now has a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers 305 horsepower and 290 pound-feet of torque. In the aesthetic aspect, there are only a handful of changes made as reported.
It Takes Time For Changes To Be Made
It appears that the changes in the Subaru WRX STI will not arrive until 2020. In a report, it was explained by a senior engineer of Subaru that the cost is not the only factor that needs to be taken into consideration but everything involved in the production cycle has to be taken into account. "You can't shorten that production cycle. There's many things to consider such as durability testing and likewise. It's not as simple as taking the turbo engine out of one car and presto, off you go," said the senior engineer as reported.
The 2018 Model
Reports state that the Subaru WRX STI will hit the showrooms in 2017 as a 2018 model. Most details regarding the facelift are still under wraps at this point but it was mentioned that the new model will be a lot better thanks to the new platform it is built on.
The Long Wait Begins
Given the fact that that all the changes will be implemented a few years from now, buyers have nothing to do but wait and see what the new model brings. In the meantime, those that want to get their hands on the Subaru WRX STI now will have to settle with the minor upgrades.
