Apple is widely expected to announce the follow-up to its iPhone 5, dubbed the iPhone 6, in Q3 2013. Even though the iPhone 5 was a shade better than its predecessor it did not make one sit up and take notice, minus the screen size bump.
This time round, iFans would be hoping that Apple takes out a few rabbits from its hat and blows the socks off consumers' feet.
Here's a look at the top five features we want to see Apple incoroprate in the iPhone 6. Some of the features are outlandish and will probably won't make their way to the next generation iPhone, but then, we're allowed to dream, aren't we?:
1. Blu-ray Drive
This feature is number one on our wishlist for iPhone 6. Apple is known as an innovator and has churned out several iconic firsts (remember Siri?). What Apple does, the competition follows, or so was the case previously.
To stand out from the crowd, Apple could introduce a Blu-ray drive in the iPhone 6, which will be a novelty and help propel the company to cult status.
A smartphone that touts a Blue-ray drive has infinite possibilities. Imagine watching a Blu-ray movie on the rumored 5-inch widescreen display with IGZO technology! Apple, are you listening?
2. Built-in Mini Projector
This feature is still uncommon in the current crop of smartphones, but has enormous potential. With the iPhone 6 having a built-in mini projector, users would have the option to beam content directly, negating the need to carry a laptop or tablet and bulky peripherals when making presentations. This feature would add value to the iPhone as a business phone, as well as an entertainment device.
A blank wall and the iPhone 6 is all that you'll need to beam images.
3. Wireless Charging
The wireless charging feature is becoming quite common for upcoming smartphones. Nokia's Lumia 920 set the trend for built-in wireless charging using the Qi standard, with Nexus 4 following suit. Recently, Samsung launched its Galaxy S4, which also has wireless charging support.
With this feature in tow, users will be able to charge the iPhone 6 wirelessly absolutely anywhere. Apple bypassed wireless charging for iPhone 5 under the pretext that "having to create another device you have to plug into the wall is actually, for most situations, more complicated."
However, with the iPhone 6, Apple could reconsider its stance and incorporate this practical and useful feature.
4. Waterproof and Dust Resistant
The iPhone 5 is a well-designed smartphone; however, it is neither waterproof nor dust-resistant. Apple could take the cue from other smartphone makers and incorporate this aspect in the upcoming iPhone 6.
Several flagship smartphones for 2013, like the Sony Xperia Z and Huawei's Ascend D2, sport water- and dust-proof coatings, which add to the user-friendliness of a smartphone. Moreover, the coating will not alter the iPhone's finish.
5. 3D Camera
With technological advancements becoming the order of the day, 2D cameras have become a thing of the past. 3D movies are all the rage and if digital cameras sets can support 3D why not smartphones? Taking a cue from this, Apple could make the camera of the iPhone 6 3D.
Currently, smartphones like the HTC EVO 3D can capture 3D images and video. Moreover, you can see movies and photos on the device's glasses-free 3D screen without any fuss.
LG also has a 3D smartphone, the LG Thrill, which has the capability to shoot 3D videos and photos and has a glasses-free 3D display.
Prior to the iPhone 5 launch, rumors that the handset would feature a 3D camera with AirShare were rife. Perhaps, Apple will bring this feature to iPhone 6.
6. Stylus
Even though we were to highlight the top five features, this one is a bonus we had to include. If the iPhone 6 were to include a stylus, like the Galaxy Note 2, then the device would have a wider appeal and be seen as a business phone too.
The stylus could also have the Air View feature and perhaps taking a cue from Samsung, Apple could take the finger hovering and eye-tracking route as well!
