Star Wars: X Wing is being remastered using the Unity engine by fans of the series. The current work so far looks incredibly sleek and the audio quality is not bad either.
Resurrecting An Old Favorite
A group of Star Wars: X Wing fans have banded together to update the old game. The remastered version still uses original MIDI audio but the cockpit and the view outside shows noticeable visual improvements. The old controls are still there where players constantly adjust powers to shield and weapons depending on the situation.
Meet the Mod Developer
XWVM is the name of the modder group for the Star Wars: X Wing unofficial remastered version. Azrapse is the group's lead developer and he posted the various features of the modded game on the moddb site.
Star Wars: X Wing Remastered Details
The fan made version will unfortunately, require players to have the original game. This game is quite old though since it was first launched in DOS and floppy disks. People who don't have an original floppy or CD copy can still play the Star Wars: X Wing remastered. Simply download the old game from either Steam or GOG.
The developer aims to release the mod version to as many platforms as possible. Although, it's highly unlikely that that a mobile version is coming out any time soon, according to Azrapse. The developers do hope to add Virtual Reality (VR) or Track IR support for its remastered version.
Possible New Missions, Ships or Modes
Star Wars: X Wing will retain its original missions and the developer has no plans to add any of their own. They are open to possibility though of adding new spaceships or game modes. So far, no definite date or plan for such feature has been set as of the moment. By the way, this mod version is actually free to download and play once it's finished.
