LG Optimus G Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean Update Arrives On Bell, Rogers, And Telus

LG Optimus G owners in Canada are in for some good news, as three Canadian phone carriers are beginning to push out a new Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update.

According to various Internet articles, Canadian carriers Bell, Rogers, and Telus have all started rolling out Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean to Optimus G users. LG stated the upgrade would be coming when it made the announcement earlier in the week, and it looks like they are sticking to their word.

Jelly Bean 4.1.2 will be available over the air for download, but since Bell, Rogers and Telus are only just starting to deliver the firmware upgrade to subscribers, users may still be in for a wait before their particular phones receive the notification.

Unfortunately, those LG Optimus G users subscribing to SaskTel have an even longer wait, as it hasn't been announced when that carrier will start delivering Android 4.1.2.

As Android Authority points out, for whatever reason, when LG launched the Optimus G in late 2012 it chose to deliver the device to retailers packing only Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. For what was supposed to be LG's flagship device, it was a decision that confused many, which, in turn, must have just made the wait for Jelly Bean 4.1.2 even more agonizing.

The thing is, Jelly Bean 4.1.2 offers Android users a pretty big leap when compared to Ice Cream Sandwich. Jelly Bean includes a redesigned user interface that had many reviewers singing its praises, in addition to Google's Project Butter, which enhanced the general functionality of the operating system and smoothed out its performance. Of course there were typical bug fixes and stability enhancements, but there was also the addition of Google Now, Android Beam and a bevy of notification options.

Fortunately for LG Optimus G users, they were not alone. Some phones still haven't received the Jelly Bean 4.1.2 update, so any time it finally arrives is a reason to celebrate.
