2016 has undeniably been the year of phablets as most of the popular brands released big-sized flagships. If you're not one of the people who are fond of huge phones, there's no need to worry though. There are still a number of smaller smartphones to choose from. Here are some:
Sony Xperia X Compact
The Sony Xperia X Compact comes with a 4.6-inch display with a pixel resolution of 720 x 1280. It runs Marshmallow from the box but it can also be upgraded to Nougat. It's worth noting that one of Xperia X Compact's biggest assets is probably its 23 MP rear camera.
Apple iPhone SE
If you're an iOS fan you're going to love the iPhone SE. It is a 4-inch device that pretty much looks like an iPhone 5S but comes with specs similar to the iPhone 6S. It is powered by Apple's A9 chipset and it comes with a 12 MP/1.2 MP camera combo, as per Apple's site.
The good thing about the iPhone SE is that you get a higher-spec'd iPhone within budget. The iPhone 6S is quite more expensive than the SE. So if you're more concerned about the internals than showing off with the latest mobile phone, the iPhone SE is a good buy.
Samsung Galaxy S7
The Galaxy S7 is one of Samsung's two S-series smartphones this year. It is a 5.1-inch smartphone that's got a premium set of specs including a Snapdragon 820 processor and 4 GB RAM. It is dust and water resistant and comes with a 12 MP rear camera.
The S7 is the lower model among the two Samsung S-series units this year. It's not exactly inferior to the S7 Edge when it comes to internal specs as the two phones are practically the same when it comes to that. The Galaxy S7 is just smaller and it doesn't have the curved display that the S7 Edge comes with.
Motorola Moto G4 Play
This 5-inch smartphone is midrange in specs but it's pretty satisfactory for people who just want a simple smartphone. It's got a Snapdragon 410 processor, 8 MP rear cam and a 5 MP front cam. Motorola has been quite consistent in releasing midrange smartphones and the company has a wide array of those. The Moto G4 is one of their 2016 releases having been announced May and released August, as per GSM Arena.
Samsung Galaxy J5 Prime
The Galaxy J5 Prime is yet another 2016 midrange phone from Samsung. It is 5 inch in size and it runs Marshmallow from the box. It is powered by an Exynos 7570 processor and it comes with a 13 MP/ 5 MP camera combo. It also has a fingerprint scanner.
Samsung is one of the most popular sources of both midrange and flagship smartphones. The company produced multiple midrange phones year after year after year and the J-series is just one of its midrange phone series. If you want a more premium Samsung option, the company offers the S-series and the Note series. However, these flagship phones are typically big-sized, especially the higher S-series model and the Note phablets.
