A few days ago, Asus created some buzz after its new laptop was inadvertently leaked. Today, another leak surfaced giving more credence to the expected release of the Chromebook Flip 2.
Newegg listed the Asus Chromebook C302CA for sale on its website but was quickly pulled down. This time around, the leak came from Best Buy. The major retail chain posted an image of a silver Flip 2 with the title:
"Asus - 12.5" Touch-Screen Chromebook - Intel Pentium - 4GB Memory - 32GB eMMC Flash Memory -Silver"on its website and
Under the Add to Cart button in large bold print is the price of the Chromebook -- $499.99.
The price is the same as with the Newegg leak so the odds are high that the new Chromebook will be that affordable. This is seen as the major deal breaker for Asus.
Compared to the new MacBook Pro, the Asus is a lot cheaper but offers almost the same features. In other words, the Chromebook Flip 2 is primed to give the new Mac a run for its money.
The other features that give the Chromebook C302CA an edge over the MacBook Pro include the headphone-out and audio-in combo jack, a micro SD slot, and a couple of USB-Type C slots. Apple has received some flak for killing most of the ports that are deemed necessary and replacing them with the USB-C ones. The Flip 2 retains the standard ports but adds the new one that Apple is trying to make famous.
The leaks come days prior to the CES 2017 where Asus is expected to announce the new Chromebook and other products. The Chromebook is not the only Asus product that has been the subject of rumors heading to the tech tradeshow.
One rumor indicates a new ZenFone will be unveiled at the Las Vegas event. This one was fuelled by a 30-second teaser trailer that the company itself released. In the short video, a couple of silhouettes show what may be a ZenFone or two.
