T-Mobile 4G LTE Network to Launch March 26 in Select Cities

A leaked document lists the first seven U.S. markets to have T-Mobile's long-anticipated 4G LTE network. T-Mobile has previously announced a press event March 26, which will be the same day the network will launch.

The U.S. cities to get the high-speed network include San Jose, Las Vegas, Kansas City, Phoenix, Houston, Washington D.C. and Baltimore, according to a report on TmoNews.com.

Oddly, New York City doesn't appear on the list although the network was reportedly tested in the city.

Furthermore, a number of T-Mobile customers will be disappointed as the network will not be available to all T-Mobile customers; the BlackBerry Z10, which T-Mobile will begin selling March 26, the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and T-Mobile Sonic 2.0 are the only three devices compatible with 4G LTE to start.

The leaked document says "gray market devices will require manual configuration," so there is a possibility that it can be made to work with other devices.

Plans to roll out the high-speed network in other cities haven't been announced. As iTech Post reported yesterday, the 4G LTE network was spotted being tested in eight cities: San Jose (and surrounding areas), Seattle, Denver, Las Vegas, New Orleans, New York, San Diego and Kansas City.

The testing was discovered through data on a third-party app OpenSignal. Engineers noticed their signal analysis/mapping app was used by an unfamiliar network and began monitoring it. OpenSignal's testing tool determines network speed, and it was able to get an idea of what T-Mobile's long-awaited LTE network has in store. The average performance was timed at 25 Mb/s download and 8 Mb/s upload.
