The top 12 Steam bestselling games for 2016 has recently been revealed. Surprisingly, one of them is free while the other one received a lot of bad press.
The 2016 Top Money Makers in Steam
Steam classified the 100 game titles into Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze based on the revenue earned. So far, the top 12 Steam bestselling games of 2016 occupy the Platinum spot. The titles included ranges from Role Playing Game (RPG), turn-based, real-time strategies (RTS) and First-Person Shooters (FPS).
Most of the top 12 Steam bestselling games feature open-world environment or multiplayer options. Some of the titles have just been released on 2016 while some have been available for quite some time. The latest includes XCOM 2 and Total War: WARHAMMER which came out last February and May respectively.
Free To Play Games Included
Not all of the top 12 Steam bestselling games require money though. DOTA 2 is a free to download and play game. It's a wildly popular action strategy game that is both developed and published by Valve. Steam on the other hand, is owned by Valve.
Controversial Game Included
The top 12 Steam bestselling games also includes the controversial No Man's Sky. Sean Murray and Hello team released it on August last year. Despite the initial excitement, many players aired their discontent about the game. It seems NMS did not meet many players' expectations. Lately, the title has been receiving positive reviews due to recent addition of contents.
The Witcher 3 was released on May 2015 but it's still wildly popular. Almost 97 out of 100 reviewers gave it two thumbs up. GTA V Online was also released on 2015 and received positive reviews from more than 75 out of 100 players. Other Steam games that also made it on the list are CSGO, Civilization VI and Tom Clancy's The Division.
