The transmission of the Ford F-150 Raptor 2017 has caused the delay of its delivery to showrooms across dealerships in America. However, it appears that it also earned the Ford F-150 Raptor 2017 a good title. Recently, the Ford F-150 2017 has been given the title of "Transmission Pioneer".
The First 10-Speed Automatic Transmission
According to a report from Ford Authority the Ford F-150 Raptor 2017 is the first in the auto industry to make use of a 10-speed automatic transmission specifically designed to be applied in rear wheel drive (RWD) vehicles. The 10-speed automatic transmission came into fruition thanks to the collaboration of Ford and General Motors. It was mentioned that the former took the lead in the 10-speed automatic transmission project while the latter took care of the nine-speed automatic transmission that will be applied in front wheel drive (FWD) vehicle configuration.
A Pioneer Title For Two
It appears that the Ford F-150 Raptor is not the only one that has received the title of being a "Transmission Pioneer". Given the fact that the 10-speed automatic transmission was developed by Ford and General Motors, it is only fair that the latter shares the spotlight with the former. As reported, the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 shares the same 10-speed automatic transmission as the Ford F-150 Raptor 2017.
A Transmission For Better Performance And Fuel Efficiency
Reports state that the 10-speed automatic transmission allows for the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 and Ford F-150 Raptor 2017 to have better performance and fuel efficiency at the same time. "The 10-speed has a greater ratio spread, which enables fuel economy in the upper gears while providing more torque multiplication in the lower gears," says Ford Drivetrain Engineer Seth Goslowski in a report.
The Progress Continues
It appears that the progress will not end with the 10-speed automatic transmission. Reports state that the LC 500 Lexus will also get the same gearbox in May. In addition, an 11-speed gearbox has been patented by Honda. This means that gear-heads have a lot to look forward to in the coming times.
