The Nintendo Switch is looking to be one ambitious console being the first to be able to plug into the TV and also be taken outside as a portable handheld system. A lot of people are eagerly anticipating its release, and have been finding out more about the Switch online. News has it that the Switch will be making use of Unreal Engine 4. That's pretty heavy for a handheld console.
According to Attack of the Fan Boy, the Switch will be having a full roster of games that will be powered by the Unreal Engine 4. The main concern with this claim is that the Switch is coming out to be an underpowered console because of its handheld capabilities, so running on an Unreal Engine 4 could be very tricky.
According to Nintendo Everything, there has been an increase in interest with Japanese developers when it comes to the Unreal Engine 4. Takayuki Kawasaki, the territory manager for Epic Games Japan, has said that with this feature, he's hoping that the Japanese console business will be able to find a new form of invigoration when it comes to the release of the Nintendo Switch.
Going back to the games that will be making use of the engine, Dragon Quest 11 is one of the titles confirmed for the Nintendo Switch, and it's also said to run on the Unreal Engine 4. It was also said that there was a sudden increase of the use of Unreal Engine on a lot of Japanese games when Dragon Quest 11 was announced way back in 2015.
Will the Nintendo Switch be able to handle such a chore? News has it that the console actually runs 40 percent slower when it's removed from the dock. Maybe the Unreal Engine can only work when the Switch is plugged in? Players will just have to wait for the reviews once the device (and the games) comes out.
No official release date has been announced for the Nintendo Switch, but it has been slated for a release on March 2017.
