Fresh on the heels of a six-second Vine tweaser that was released earlier in the week, Marvel has dropped two full-length trailers for The Wolverine — an international and a domestic version.
The international version landed first, and is probably a little bit cooler, but the domestic trailer does contain new footage, so both are definitely worth watching.
The Wolverine finds Hugh Jackman pummeling and smashing his way through Japan, where an elderly benefactor offers him the chance of being "cured" of his immortality.
Two-time Oscar-winning director James Mangold is a newcomer to the Marvel universe, but his resume is nothing to scoff at. Some of his directing credits include Girl, Interupted, Walk the Line, 3:10 to Yuma and Knight and Day.
The two new Wolverine trailers definitely reflect Mangold's experience with drama as well as more straightforward action films and we're excited to see what he can do with one of Marvel's most celebrated comic book arcs.
The Wolverine trailers can be found here and here.
The Wolverine will premiere on July 26, 2013 in the U.S. and will debut a day earlier in Jackman's native Australia.
Here's the official plot synopsis from Marvel:
Based on the celebrated comic book arc, this epic action-adventure takes Wolverine, the most iconic character of the X-Men universe, to modern day Japan. Out of his depth in an unknown world he faces his ultimate nemesis in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed. Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality, emerging more powerful than we have ever seen him before.
