Xiaomi is making heads turn in its first ever CES event.
At a press conference for CES 2017, representatives from the 6-year old Chinese company revealed several products that impressed not just a few.
Mi TV 4
The claim to fame of Xiaomi's Mi TV 4 is that it is the "thinnest TV yet". It measures a measly 4.9 millimeters making it even thinner than an iPhone and the company's own slim phone the Mi Mix. According to Xiaomi Vice President, Hugo Barra, the TV "practically disappear[s] when viewed from at a flat angle".
The modular Mi TV 4 is also without frames and has just a bit of bezel lining the edges of the screen making it even slicker. The Mi TV 4, which comes in 49, 55 and 65 inches, is a separate entity from the electronics allowing the user to update its motherboard, display and buy an additional sound bar to improve the audio. But that may not be necessary as the slim TV comes with 10 built-in speakers plus two wireless satellite speakers. It also has a subwoofer and supports Dolby Atmos.
White Mi Mix Smartphone
When the Mi Mix was released in October, it came in black and was deemed one of the best Android devices at the time. Fast forward to today and the Mi Mix now comes in a beautiful white ceramic version. The problem is, both black and white versions of the 6.4-inch smartphone are not available in the U.S. The black Mi Mix is only sold in China and India while the new white variant is available in China.
Mi Router HD
Xiaomi, according to Senior Vice President for Global Business and IP Strategy Xiang Wang, was built with three pillars - hardware, internet services, and its IoT platform called the Mi ecosystem. The company figures to continue its expansion on the internet and the Mi ecosystem with the Mi Router HD. Venture Beat reports that Xiaomi is actually already involved 77 companies and around 50 million devices. The new Mi Router HD which will make it even better and easier to connect these products.
Among the features of the Mi Router HD are 2600 Mbps 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Qualcomm IPQ8064 network processor, 8TB surveillance hard drive, and an aluminum alloy housing.
The Chinese company first entered the U.S. market late last year with the TV set-top box called Mi Box. It remains to be seen when it will make more of its products available in the U.S. and other countries.
