ESA's Moon Village: Permanent Lunar Base Becoming A Reality

ESA's moon village has attracted global support for the concept of setting up permanent lunar bases.

The ideal of setting up human outpost on the moon has generated interested all across the globe.

Space funding for the program was discussed at Lucerne Switzerland by member states of the union to put up the moon village.

According to ESA director general Johann-Dietrich Wörner, there are a number of companies around the world that has shown interest in participating with the project and would like to be part of the community on the moon.

The concept looks promising as pledges amassing $10.77 billion have been made during the negotiations.

ESA is not the only one with its eyes set on the moon. There are a number of other companies and countries who have also sought to put a human settlement on the moon according to a report by The Guardian.

British firm Foster + Partners have designed an inflatable lunar habitat capable of shielding inhabitants from radiation and space debris.

Some people say that space exploration is a waste of resources and that funds spent on these missions should be redirected instead to address issues that we have here on earth such as world hunger.

Scientists however argue that it is essential that we develop colonies outside our planet to ensure survival of humans as a species. It is a probability that humans and the whole planet could be snuffed out at some point.

ESA's moon village will help ensure that we survive as a species should disaster strikes.

The threat to the human race may come in the form of a killer asteroid or it could be an internal threat such as warfare.

According to well-renowned theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking, states that the human race should not put its eggs all in one basket or in one planet as reported in an article by Futurism.

Scientists and futurist looks at the larger picture to ensure the survival of the human race as we try to beat the cosmic odds that are stacked against us.
